This suggested budget is separate from program fees and is not a visa eligibility figure. Savings may overlap, but meeting one requirement does not prove you meet the other.
You manage your application. Academic documents, a visa guide and answers to questions are provided. There is no dedicated caseworker managing the whole process; the Spanish authorities decide approval. EU citizens do not need this visa.

There are two Madrid programs.
A 180-hour Level 5 hybrid TEFL — ~65 hours online, then four weeks in Madrid (two part-time, two intensive) for your 6 observed classes — then guaranteed job interviews.
For teachers who already hold a TEFL certificate — an in-person course with observed teaching, or an online Level 5. Placement support, job alerts across 300+ schools, and the visa route for non-EU passports. We assess your certificate and confirm your route and fees before you book.

Not included: housing, flights, health insurance (required for the visa — typically $700–$900 for 14–15 months), long-term housing, your consulate’s visa fees, meals and daily transport.

Bring enough to reach your first paycheck.
That’s about €2,600–3,450, on top of the program fees — first month’s rent plus a deposit, a transport pass, a SIM, food and insurance, until your first paycheck lands. This is a suggested budget, not a program fee; spending depends on your rent, deposit and time until paid work. EU citizens need less — no visa fee to pay and less waiting before work starts.
We’re telling you this early on purpose. If that number isn’t realistic right now, you should know today — not after you’ve paid.
Madrid’s rules are refreshingly relaxed.
- Adults 18+— most teachers are in their 20s and 30s
- Native or near-native English— bilingual counts
- A Bachelor’s degree — non-EU passports only— any subject, with transcripts. EU citizens don’t need one
- Clean police check— national level, apostilled where required, for the student visa
- No teaching experience needed— and no Spanish before you start
Tattoos are no issue — Madrid is relaxed about them. Religious dress is generally fine. Partners and kids can’t join the program itself, and pets aren’t arranged for.

Madrid pays in lifestyle, not savings.
- You won’t save much. Most teachers cover their costs and their travel — if banking money is the goal, Asia pays more.
- The hours are back-loaded. Most classes run 3pm–9pm, and with prep and travel, 20–25 teaching hours feels close to full-time.
- Christmas and Easter are often unpaid — about a week each. Public holidays are paid if you were scheduled to work.
- Housing isn’t included. We help with leads, but you find and fund your own place — budget €500–650 a month with bills for a shared room inside the M30.
- Sign up 4–5 months ahead. The non-EU visa needs processing time and course numbers are limited.
