02Two Madrid programs
Before you read on

There are two Madrid programs.

You're reading this oneHybrid TEFL + Guaranteed Interviews Not TEFL-certified yet? Start here.

A 180-hour Level 5 hybrid TEFL — ~65 hours online, then four weeks in Madrid (two part-time, two intensive) for your 6 observed classes — then guaranteed job interviews.

Placement Program Already TEFL-certified? Start here.

For teachers holding a pre-approved Level 5 TEFL — straight to placement support, job alerts across 300+ schools, and the same visa route for non-EU passports.

Both programs work on an EU or a non-EU passport — non-EU teachers use a 1-year renewable university student visa. Not sure which fits? Ask us at your interview.

03A word from Mike
Mike Maitland, TEFL Heaven founder
A word from our founder

"Feel the fear and do it anyway."

TEFL Heaven started when I invited myself on a girl’s flight to Bangkok. She said yes — and seventeen years later we’ve sent more than 3,000 teachers abroad, and it’s still a family business.

Madrid is the one people pick for the life: tapas at midnight, a metro that goes everywhere, and a city that treats teachers well.

Your investment

One price. Paid in steps.

1 · Deposit · when you book$695

Books your place and starts the work — placement prep, route guidance and paperwork.

2 · Mid payment · one month after your deposit$305

The two dollar payments together come to $1,000 — then the euro payments finish it.

Then in euros · EU passport€575 + €550

€575 first, then €550 closer to your start.

Then in euros · non-EU passport€1,400 + €2,110

€1,400 first, then €2,110 closer to your start. Covers the course, the university visa year and Spanish classes.

All together, that’s about $2,275 on an EU passport · $5,100 non-EU. That total is approximate and in US dollars — the exact amounts you pay are the dollar and euro payments above.

12You won’t do this alone
Why people choose this

You arrive with friends already made.

  • You go as a group — you train together, explore together, and walk into week one already knowing people
  • Proper in-person training — real classrooms and real students before your first paid lesson, with trainers who taught here themselves
  • Support the whole way — a team that answers before you fly, while you train, and long after you’re placed

Most people sign up alone. Nobody finishes alone — the group you train with becomes your first circle of friends in the country.

TEFL Heaven
13Money to bring
Read this before you book

Bring enough to reach your first paycheck.

$3,000–4,000to bring with you

That’s about €2,800–3,700, on top of the program fees — first month’s rent plus a deposit, a transport pass, a SIM, food and insurance, until your first paycheck lands. You don’t spend it all — most of it stays yours. EU citizens need less — no visa fee to pay and less waiting before work starts.

We’re telling you this early on purpose. If that number isn’t realistic right now, you should know today — not after you’ve paid.

TEFL Heaven
14Can you apply?
Can you apply?

Madrid’s rules are refreshingly relaxed.

  • Adults 18+— most teachers are in their 20s and 30s
  • Native or near-native English— bilingual counts
  • A Bachelor’s degree — non-EU passports only— any subject, with transcripts. EU citizens don’t need one
  • Clean police check— national level, apostilled where required, for the student visa
  • No teaching experience needed— and no Spanish before you start

Tattoos are no issue — Madrid is relaxed about them. Religious dress is generally fine. Partners and kids can’t join the program itself, and pets aren’t arranged for.

16The honest bit
The honest bit

Madrid pays in lifestyle, not savings.

  • You won’t save much. Most teachers cover their costs and their travel — if banking money is the goal, Asia pays more.
  • The hours are back-loaded. Most classes run 3pm–9pm, and with prep and travel, 20–25 teaching hours feels close to full-time.
  • Christmas and Easter are often unpaid — about a week each. Public holidays are paid if you were scheduled to work.
  • Housing isn’t included. We help with leads, but you find and fund your own place — budget €500–650 a month with bills for a shared room inside the M30.
  • Sign up 4–5 months ahead. The non-EU visa needs processing time and course numbers are limited.

We’d rather you knew all of this today than at the consulate.

17What our Madrid teachers say
From our Madrid alumni

Reviews — in their words. ★★★★★

"The course was well structured, the trainers were thorough and knowledgeable. You are never alone after the TEFL course, you are always welcome to go back and visit your trainers if you need help or ideas with your lessons. The friends you make from the course is priceless, you become close like family."

Sharmani Cheng — Madrid

"The connections that the team have all over Madrid are crazy. Just by having the organisations name on your CV gets you so much attention you’ll have to be turning down jobs no faster than you apply for them."

Sheri Orekan — Madrid

"I was extremely well prepared. The TEFL Heaven course allowed me real-world practice; I taught six classes to actual Spaniards before I ever stepped foot into a paid classroom where I would be paid to teach."

Benjamin Grimes — Madrid
