02A word from Mike
Mike Maitland, TEFL Heaven founder
A word from our founder

"I went to Thailand chasing a girl."

She said yes. That's how TEFL Heaven started — not with a business plan, but with a Scotsman inviting himself on a girl's flight to Bangkok.

Seventeen years later we've sent more than 3,000 teachers abroad, and it's still a family business. I know exactly what it feels like to step off that plane, because I did it too.

03Why TEFL Heaven
Why go with us

Seventeen years of putting people on planes.

2007placing teachers since
3,000+teachers placed
10countries
150+video testimonials

"Over 17 years we've placed more than 3,000 English teachers in classrooms from Bangkok to Buenos Aires." A family business, still run by the person who started it.

A straight word on certificates. We're not a CELTA centre and we don't pretend to be. We sit in the affordable, practical end of the market — a real classroom, real students, and a job at the end.

The course is internationally accredited and externally inspected every quarter.

04Why Prague
Why Prague

A place people move to, not just visit.

  • Hires all year— one of Europe's biggest markets
  • You can afford it— rooms from 15,000 Kč
  • Central to everywhere— Berlin, Vienna, Budapest by train
  • A legal way to stay— not just a summer
  • Decades-deep expat scene
  • Small classes— usually one to eight students

A 550 Kč pass covers the whole of Prague. Trains out of it are cheap, and Berlin, Vienna and Budapest are all a few hours away. Most teachers work four days and travel on the rest.

06What this is
What this is

Four weeks. In person. In Prague.

Not online. Not a weekend. Not a PDF you read on your own. You'll stand in front of real students in real classrooms, ten times, and every one is watched and fed back on.

A TEFL certificate

Yours for life, and recognised by the schools hiring here.

A guaranteed paid job

You finish the course with a position, not a list of leads.

People who help

Trainers, a job specialist, and teachers who did this before you.

09Ten observed lessons
A language school classroom
The bit that matters

Ten real lessons.
Watched every time.

Three 45-minute lessons a week across weeks two, three and four. After every single one you get feedback from a trainer and from the people training alongside you. That's 14+ hours of real classroom teaching practice in all.

Reading about teaching and teaching are not the same skill — and only one of them gets you hired.

13You won’t do this alone
Why people choose this

You arrive with friends already made.

  • You go as a group — you train together, explore together, and walk into week one already knowing people
  • Proper in-person training — real classrooms and real students before your first paid lesson, with trainers who taught here themselves
  • Support the whole way — a team that answers before you fly, while you train, and long after you’re placed

Most people sign up alone. Nobody finishes alone — the group you train with becomes your first circle of friends in the country.

Two payments. Months apart.

Your place is held. Housing, visa prep and your grammar course start straight away.

90 days before you fly$1,502

Invoiced well ahead. Nothing else falls due after this.

$695 + $1,502 = $2,197 — the whole price. The deposit is part of it, never extra on top.

And the course can pay you back. $200 every time someone books through your affiliate link — eleven people and it has paid for itself.

Housing runs until the Sunday after you graduate — arriving early costs about $37 a night.

18Staying legally
Staying legally

The short version.

Course onlyYou need nothing special

Turn up, do the four weeks, take your certificate anywhere in the world. No visa involved.

Staying to workA Czech trade licence visa

The standard route teachers here use. Work legally, teach privately, stay.

We walk you through every step and a specialist handles the paperwork with you. Start early — some passports need three months.

TEFL Heaven
19The bank letter
Read this before you book

The money you have to show — and keep.

156,500 Kč≈ $7,500, in your own name

It is proof you can support yourself. You don't spend it. It stays yours.

  • An original letter— bank paper, stamped and signed
  • Dated 1–2 weeksbefore you fly
  • Two names on the account? That amount each
  • Course only? You don't need it at all

We're telling you this early on purpose. If that number isn't realistic right now, you should know today — not after you've paid.

TEFL Heaven
20The waiting months
The part nobody enjoys

You can't be paid until your licence lands.

It takes two to three months. Most schools let you start teaching while you wait, and some pay up to $500 a month in the meantime, releasing the rest once your licence comes through.

Bring with you$2,200–4,000

To cover the gap. Separate from the bank-letter money — that stays untouched.

ThenFull pay, legally

Licence in hand, invoicing schools, teaching privately, staying as long as you like.

Everybody who teaches in Prague goes through this. It ends.

Also common: business English for companies, summer camps and weekend intensives. Mixing them is normal here — it's why the trade licence matters.

26Is this you?
Is this you?

Worth being straight about.

You'll do well here if you
  • Can give a full month to it
  • Want to live somewhere, not visit it
  • Can cover the course, your living costs, and the bank letter if you're staying
You don't need
  • Teaching experience
  • A language degree
  • A word of Czech

Most jobs in Asia and South America want a university degree. Prague and central Europe are far more open — one reason people start here.

28The honest bit
The honest bit

Nobody says it was easy.

"At first, the practice classes are quite daunting, but after a few of them you know the things you need to work on and are able to enjoy yourself more."

Zoe · Prague

"It was an intense four weeks but the support of a great group of people, daily lessons and content with structure and social elements meant a great and well-rounded experience and achievement."

Bella Foster · Prague

We'd rather you heard that now. Everyone finds the first practice class frightening. Everyone gets through it. That's what the trainers are for.
